Quitting your job to embark on a new adventure, could be very interesting, intriguing or completely disastrous. You may want to leave your job to apply for another job, or start a new business or your own company; no matter what the reason may be, you ought to make sure you've taken the best decision.
Sometimes we get to a point where our mind is so much full, with all sort of thought, that we just don't know where to start from.

1. Why do you want to leave your 9 - 5 job ?
You need to know exactly why you would want to leave your 9 - 5 job. Your reasons may vary from time to time if you are confused or having too much thoughts. You need to organize your thoughts, by writing them down. Go through and mark the most important one to you. Then ask yourself why is that so important to you? The reason for which, you want to leave your job, should be strong enough to spark some fire within you, and fuel your emotions and your passion. If your reason isn't that strong enough, you should reconsider that decision. Unless it has everything to do with abuse or discrimination at your current work place.
If your reason is business related, spend enough time making a lot of research and preparing it. If it is to apply for another job or join another company, make sure it's a place that embraces your passion and integrity.
2. Are you financially stable ?
If you are without a job today, will you be able to survive without a monthly income for the next 3 - 6 months ?
Yes sometimes, looking for a new job while being jobless can be costive, can you afford it?
Are you trying to pay off a loan ? credit cards ?
A lot of people can barely survive on their monthly salary, while others have additional source of income, as in side businesses. If you do not have any side business, do you have enough savings or investment to help you survive till you get yourself your dream job or business?
If yes, then that's great; but if that's not the case, then you need to hold on a little bit and create an additional source of income that will sustain you when you are out of job.
3. Do you have other people financially depending on you?
If you do have a number of people depending on you, then you should know that whatever decision you take, which will affect your finances, will definitely affect them.
Sometimes we wish to just take certain decisions and change the course of our lives, without thinking of whoever is around us; but the reality is that, whether we like it or not, certain people will always be part of it.
But here also if you have additional source of income, to cater for everyone, then why not? Just make sure not to end up in a pool of depression and anxiety.
4. Prepare a plan and go by it
Leaving your 9 - 5 job, must be handled like a project, thus you should put together a project plan. You must have a vision of how you want your next destination to be like, put your action plans down, and have a time frame. Having a time frame is very important because, you are able to track yourself and put things in order within a specific time.
No matter what your reasons may be, the most important thing is to make sure you are well informed, prepared and equipped. Such decision should never be a hasty one.
